Shame on the DPI for shooting nearly 300 ponies in Jeparit

The Jeparit ponies barely made the news, but they reached so many hearts through the Internet. A long standing legal battle between a man and the DPI regarding the welfare of 300 ponies in Jeparit, Victoria, has turned my stomach upside down. Billie Dean, a well known animal communicator, raised people’s awareness on Facebook last week regarding the ponies. After legally taking over the ponies, the DPI, based on their vets’ recommendations and RSPCA, decided to kill the ponies.

There were many people who were prepared to rescue them, and some were able to find a good home as this article in the Herald Sun explains.

You can read the background story on the Quest Equine Welfare website.

The atrocity didn’t stop there. Around 100 ponies were rounded up into a yard and they were shot, including pregnant mares. When the remaining ponies saw this, they ran away. Men on horseback then chased them around and shot them. One man leaded a blind pony into a yard and shot it dead.

How can we allow such atrocity?? On which basis did the vets decide they could not be re-homed? Why?????

To me, it’s murder!

You can tell the DPI how you feel by emailing Terry Lewis terry.lewis@dpi.vic.gov.au

I donate money to the RSPCA and I don’t want my money to help with such atrocities!

I also thank Janet Roper for including the story in one of her newsletter, and many thanks to Billie for raising the issue with the world.

Please keep spreading the word. The world needs to know the Jeparit ponies didn’t die for nothing!

May the souls of the Jeparit ponies be blessed and mercy comes on us.

  1. Shame indeed!!! NO rights were given these ponies. Unfortunately now after the fact of this obscenity but not too late for others…we can all band together for future issues.

    1. People need to know! This is the only way it cannot happen again.

  2. I feel a pit in my stomach hearing about it as well. But I offer that we express and move to forgiveness rather than shame. My prayer is those making the decisions and those carrying decisions out open their hearts and eyes to see another way. To see what is possible for these and all beings. My prayer is that people do not stand in judgement and that action is taken for the highest of all. That this be done with Love not with anger. What I have learned most from the horses is that they are fully in the moment without any judgement. Blessings to the ponies who serve by helping us, all of us, awaken.

    1. I agree with you Lisa, we need to find forgiveness. However, I also believe we need to raise awareness. People need to know and ask questions otherwise things will never change for the better. When despicable acts are conducted, although it is much easier and less painful not knowing, they need to be exposed as this is the only way governments and laws can change. I DO NOT advocate violence or revenge on these people, I only want the matter to be brought to the public, explained and looked at to see what else could have been done and what can be done in the future
